Our basic guidelines of important design considerations for metal casting to help improve part manufacturability, enhance cosmetic appearance, and reduce production problems.

Design Guide for Metal Casting

Sand casting

 

Avoid sharp corners and angles (Generous radis and filets)

 

 

Smooth transition from thin to thick sections

 

 

Avoided extensive flat thin surfaces as may warp during cooling

 

 

Min. wall thickness should be 1mm

 

 

Shrinkage around 0.8-1.5% for small-size casting

 

Mould casting

 

Design ribs, and coring for holes or recesses to maximize the strength of the part, minimize the weight & cost of the part

 

 

Provide a small draft angle (0.5~2 degree)

 

Provide fillets at all inside corners
